Golden Autumn Leaves

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

The arrival of Autumn is heralded by a burst of flamboyant shades of yellow, orange and red leaves. Here at Car Park Services it is our favourite time of year.

Why do leaves change colour and fall to the ground? Simply put, less sunlight triggers chlorophyll to break down revealing the yellow and orange pigments underneath which are usually hidden by the green chlorophyll. Fiery reds are produced in years when lots of sunlight and dry weather have increased the concentration of sugar in tree sap which triggers a chemical reaction. At the end of this colourful process, leaves die. Trees shed their dead leaves because they are no longer able to get energy from them through winter. The leaf is finally blown off by the wind or falls from its own weight.

Although we love this blaze of autumnal colour, it comes with a task that’s the bane of the season for many business owners: clearing those pesky fallen leaves. When leaves start to fall and pile up on the ground they become more than just an irritation.

Leaves left on office pathways will decay and cause a slip hazard. In addition, dry leaves can congregate in the corners of car parks or alongside perimeters, rendering them unsightly and concealing potentially dangerous potholes or trip hazards.

Car Park Services provide both a one-off or regular leaf clearance service throughout the Autumn/Winter months. Our team can arrive early to complete the work, ensuring that our leaf clearance services do not impact your working day. For more information or a quotation for leaf clearance or any of our other property or grounds maintenance services, please get in touch today!
